Story Mode Studio is a small creative group centered around making art, zines, and other creative projects. The central focus of the studio is stories, both those told by artists as well as those that inspired the artists.
The brand is designed to be subtle enough so as not to distract focus from the projects it publishes and creates, while being impactful.
The patterns made for the end papers is a hexagonal motif made from the logo. Hexagons are an underlying aesthetic element to Story Mode Studio's brand. Colors for the brand were pulled from an artifact of inspiration; the Game Boy!
Type for the brand followed a similar route as the logo, namely with the intention of being strong, but not overbearing. The Proxima Nova type family is very large and versatile, too, allowing for extensive uses in various applications.
Examples featured in the manual are mock-ups displaying the various hypothetical uses of the brands colors and type.
Textures were pulled directly from a personal collection of video game manuals.
After scanning at 1200ppi, the images were then modified in Photoshop to "subtract" the logos and artwork and leave all the various wear and fold marks. These images were then formatted into positive, negative, and vector files for further use in future documents and artwork.
